Winter Wonderland!

I have been a bad blogger lately.
But here I am, trying to make amends...with photos!!!! Everyone loves photos of our little Laila-bean! She was working hard today with Grandma and Grandpa Tarasar.

She has been talking so much lately! She has recently mastered Grama and says it nonstop. It is adorable. She also says "All done, mom!" And when she wants my attention says "mom, mom, mom, mom". This, I am sure, will never stop. Aside from the talking excitement, we are just waiting for Christmas and Santa to come. Here are a few more recent picture of Laila.

Traveling girl!

We left at 6 pm on Friday night and drove through to Council Bluffs/Omaha. We got to sleep at 130 am and were back in the road at 9:00am.
We drove to North Platte, Ne and ate lunch at Ruby Tuesdays. Then we drove straight through to Evergreen, Co where were welcomed by the Tarasars with wine! We saw a lot of elk in the front yards on neighbors houses and we thought that was awesome! Steve and I can definitely see ourselves living in Denver or surrounding areas someday.

We had a wonderful dinner and conversation with Steve and Joan. Laila and I played with Natalie and laila just loves her!

We headed out from there around 9 pm and ended up in Pueblo a little after 11. Our first room had a pretty intense fountain springing from the bathroom, so we moved.

Once we were all settled in...sllleeep. Laila was such a good girl and we are so proud of her! We did meet Olivia this morning. She is simply perfection. I took a little nap with her while the others were out. Steve and laila laid on the bed too. Pictures to come!

Now, a much needed nap time!

My favorite time of year.

This time of the year, after Halloween and before Christmas, is my favorite. It is a time that I always feel like life slows down a bit, just for a brief moment. Summer is over and we rest out bodies from all the activities we Minnesotans cram into the warm months. Winter is not yet here but there is the anticipation of first snow and frosty windows. The feeling of non-stop hustle and bustle from Christmas has not set in yet.

I have always felt that Thanksgiving gets a bad wrap. It seems every year the surrounding holidays encroach upon its limited time a little more. This year I am saying ENOUGH. I am celebrating my holiday first. Back off CHRISTMAS! Stop encroaching on Thanksgiving.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Food, wine, family and naps. Seriously...what can be better?! It was this day two years ago that we told our families we were having Laila. We are so thankful for all the amazing things that have come our way in those 2 years.

And away we go!

A lot of things have been going through my brain, or what is left of it.
A)  How did my 7 lb 14 oz baby turn into a 24 lb 14 oz toddler?
B)  When did she starts saying "whoa" like Joey from Blossom?
C) When did she lose her baby rolls and gain the cutest little legs and tummy I've ever seen?
D) How did I survive a week without Steve?
E) How can I survive a week WITH Steve (and Laila and my mom) in a car.  Yikes! That is a long time in a small space.

In all reality, I am still reeling from the past year.  So much has changed that I am just starting to settle into my new life.  In the spirit of change, I have a job interview on Monday.  I would NEVER want to keep my life the same for more than a month!  Time for a new job!  I will let you know how it goes.

Laila is a duck for Halloween.  It was an easy decision and she says "quack quack" all the time.  She loves the just wear the duck feet around the house.  Odd little girl, but it is pretty cute.  She is getting 2 new teeth.  The front ones.  She looks pretty cute with teeth!

Steve has been gone all week in Charlotte North Carolina on business.  He has been training the Wachovia team to bring them up to speed on the Wells Fargo procedures.  We missed him terribly, but he has a great time!  We only had one minor incident involving the shower curtain/rod, the toilet and the towel rack.  Use your imagination but know that I am now convinced our bathroom is now haunted.  Very timely for the ghost to show himself right around Halloween.  And yes, it is a man ghost.  Only a man would think me sticking my hand in the toilet bowl is funny.  Luckily, it had just been cleaned!  Take that ghost!

Anyway....3 weeks from today we will be taking off on our cross country adventure.  First stop will be Denver to see my aunt and uncle.  Next stop Pueblo to see my new baby, Olivia!  Then hopefully seeing my friend Angie in Colorado Springs if it works out.  Then it is off to Dallas to hang out in the warmth for a few days.  What i am REALLY excited about it driving to see my friend Jen, who I haven't seen in 11 (yikes!) years.  Man, I miss her and I am so excited to meet her little girl.  I know her and Laila will love each other.  Laila loves everyone and how can anyone not love Laila!

Working out, cat food style!

Laila is a very strong girl. She likes to show off her guns by carry around the 5 lb cat food bag.
We were all very impressed. She also tried to feed the kitty using the unopened wet cat food can. It really just terrifies the cat.

Laila's toothbrush and Steve's Birthday

Laila loves to brush her teeth. This is one of the photos from her first time! We didn't have properly functioning computer so I couldn't upload it! But here is it! She is so happy when she gets to brush her teeth...and not so happy when it is time to put it away. Yikes!
I will remind her of that later in life... "you used to LOVE to brush your teeth! you used to scream and cry when mommy took it away!"

Also, here is out kitty. We found out today that it is a girl! We don't know what to name her yet, but we are working on it.
We are having more trouble with kitty names then we did with baby names!

It is Steve's 29th birthday today and he is currently out getting his hour massage. Then later tonight we are going out to dinner and a movie! My best friend Jes' sister, Jenn, is babysitting. She is an AWESOME babysitter and so good with kids! I am excited to have Laila hang out with her!

I can now promise more frequent updates and pictures! Yay!

Moving along, slowly, slowly, slowly.....

We have now spent every night of the week in our new house. Since we have been so hectic and unpacking, we haven't had a night to relax..but that will come soon enough.  It was nice to just sit on the couch with Steve and watch "How I Met Your Mother" like we used to.

Tonight we are hoping to get our over the range microwave installed and then that should be the end of our house endeavours for a few weeks at least.  We both have decided we need to just live for a while, unpack and deal with the rest a little at a time.

We bought a treadmill and we are both excited to be able to run without leaving the house! Especially since it is getting brisk outside. :) We have had 2 significant snowfalls already this fall! One last Friday night and the other Sunday night through Monday. It is a little early for this, but we just deal with it and realize..we live in Minnesota!

I don't mind the snow, I just don't like scraping our cars off. With that being said, we really need to
get all of our boxes out of the garage!  Laila seems indifferent to the snow at this point but we do have
a snowsuit in anticipation for some winter wonderland frolicking!

I will post new pictures when I get my NEW computer on Thursday!!! YAY!!!  It has been a good 5 or 6 years since i got a new computer and longer than that for Steven.  It is long overdue and we are both really excited!

Winding down

Things in the Janish household have been in a state of chaos for many months now. We finally moved into the house last tuesday after struggling to get the water turned on. The house looks a million times better but still so much work to be done.

We are slowly unpacking and putting things where we need them. We have set aside the major efforts until next week though. My friend, christine is in town for a few days! Steve's mom also came into town for a wedding this weekend. It is nice to be able to show off our house a little (even in its current state) as we have put in so much time.

The big news in our lives is that we bought a new computer and a treadmill! Woo hoo! Now I can do homework and we can both run at night. I don't enjoy running but ill do it because I know its good for me...kind of like eating green beans. :)

Laila is doing great! She is so big. She can say moo for cows, quacks for ducks, woofs for dogs. Says mommy daddy kiley (my parent dog), kitty, nuh-uh (yikes!), mmmmmm (when something is tasty), baby, teresa, and I think that is about it!

She is growing up so terribly fast! Makes me a little sad. Ill post pictures later!

A job well done.

Steve and I put together our table and chairs last night. No major issues and we think I turned out fabulous!

Things are really starting to come together, even without water. We are still strugglinh to get the city to come out in a timely fashion to do anything. But we will get there! I am just taking things one day at a time!

Laila's First Steps

Tonight, we had a first. A BIG FIRST.

Steve and I saw Laila take her first real steps.
Five sweet, stumbling steps.

We were laying across the foot of our bed and Laila was playing with her toys on the floor beneath us. She stood up and scooted along the bed to Steve's bedside table. She picked up one of her birthday cards. (yes, we still have her birthday cards strewn about...we don't get around to cleaning up much lately) She started looking at the card, turned around to show it to us. Then started looking back at the car
Publish Post
d and one step ( I held me breathe) two steps (I hit Steve to get his attention) three steps ( I break out in smile) four steps (I look at Steve) five steps (I start to cry) and then BOOM! She falls on her butt. She looks up at us when she realized what just happened, a little frightened. When she sees us smiling and praising her she breaks out in a HUGE smile.

It was one of the best moments that I can ever remember and I am so glad that I was there!

The appliances arrived today. They look spectacular! We did a little yard work this morning and are working on painting the rest of the upstairs tonight and tomorrow!
We also have new toilets, faucets and shower heads. Windows are ordered and countertops/sink will be installed this week!
We are meeting with Donny, the carpet guy, this coming week as well. If we can get the carpet installed the following week we can move in!!!

Oh the joys of homeownership

OK! So the last week has been a whirlwind. We almost lost the house and our earnest money because of a few choice idiots at the bank. But, luckily, we have to most amazing realtor who called in quite a few favors and got everything squared away! If you ever need a realtor, we most definitely will give you a great recommendation!

We signed all the papers Thursday and immediately went over to the new house. We changed all the locks from hideous gold to a more modern design and finish. Steve and I both like silver or pewter and the whole house is decked out in gold trimmed everything. Of course, we had our bottle of champagne and took lots of pictures, which I'll post later.

Friday night we went over to the house after work and ripped all the old carpet from the upstairs. It was so much easier to move around after that was out. It was thoroughly disgusting. We also started wiping down all the walls with bleach water.

Saturday was the big day. My mom had surgery for a retinal detachment (very scary by the way) so she is not able to lift anything. This makes it impossible for her to watch Laila. We had to bring her with us, which made everything a bit more challenging. In the morning we met the contractor to finalize the kitchen plans and then ew put her down for a "nap". I am not entirely sure how much she actually napped. We put her in a pack and play in one of the basement room.

She woke up and we went to The Home Depot. We purchased all of our appliances and they are set to come next Saturday! We are very excited. We also picked out all of our paint! We went back to the house and Laila took another nap. This time we are sure she didn't really sleep at all. I am sure it iwas just a strange room and strange noises coming from upstairs. But while she was resting we got the first coat on her room. We are doing it just like it was in the old house. :)

We used paint and primer in one, it is this new paint from Behr. It works AMAZINGLY well. There were crayon and marker drawings all over the walls and it completely covered it in one coat. We have a few spot to touch up due to my poor corner painting skills, but other than that...done! I am sold. Now we just have to convice Jes to come out and do her striped magic again! :)

The master bedroom had wallpaper in it. Lucky us. Steve worked tirelessy (obsessively) all day to get that stuff off. It is mostly done, save about a 3 foot section. I finally made him go home at 10:30 since we had been there since 9 am.

Todays projects? I am glad you asked. We will finish the wallpaper, clean and tape the master bedroom. Also, finish cleaning and taping the entry way and dining room. After that we will just paint away!

I will post more later on the progess and hope to get some pictures up soon!

She's still got it!

And by "it", I mean cheeks. As is evident in this photo, the cheeks are still there.

We had her check up today and it went well. She is 22 lbs 11 oz and 31 inches tall! She is really tall! :) No teeth yet and dr said at her 15 month (2 months from now) check up if she still doesn't have any we will talk to a specialist. I am not worried yet, but Steve is concerned. She got 3 shots and is so far doing fine. We gave her pizza after, so that makes everything better.

Still no word on the house closing. It doesn't look like it is going to happen this week again. Big shocker!

Monday, August 24, 2009

And the waiting continues.

So, we are still here...waiting. Another week. We hope that this will be that last week of waiting, at least waiting for this. We are set to close Friday at 1:30 but we will see if that happens. If it does we are both ready to jump in and start getting ready to clean and paint. My parents are planning (for the 4th weekend in a row) to take Laila. Every week comes and goes and we have to say...not this week..how about next weekend?

I start class this week. I have a class on Saturday from 8- 11 am, which i am not looking forward to being functional at that hour. But, it has to be done! It is a macroeconomics class so I am excited for that, I really enjoy economics.

Laila is so close to walking these days! Grandma Pam bought her a little toy that she can ride/scoot along and it also lifts up to be a walk-along toy. She CRUISES on that thing. Get out of her way or suffer the consequences of broken toes.

She was 13 months old yesterday and STILL NO TEETH! Yikes! I am sure she is tired of eating semi mushy foods or very small chunks of not smushy foods. We have talked about it and she is getting ready to show some pearly whites soon she says.

We are going to the doctor on Wednesday for her 1 yr check up. It is a month late and the funny thing is that I made the appointment in the beginning of June. It was the ONLY time they could get me in with the Dr. that I wanted at the time I wanted. Oh well, delaying the shots is not so bad...but they inevitable come along no matter how far away you make the appointment.
Laila is such a good baby I am just waiting for the switch to flip and have the crazy kid that I hear everyone else has. She is such a blessing and we are so very lucky.

Steve is doing well. He has been running again and is sad that baseball is winding down. He is all geared up for football though. They sure do make these transitions easy in the world of sports, don't they? Not a day without something to talk about. ::rolls her eyes:: It makes him happy, and that is all that I can ask for sometimes! We all need our escape.

I'll keep you updated on the housing situation but right now Steve needs to talk to me about the Mt Dew commercial where ferrets attack people with a chainsaw?? I think he needs my devoted attention. Being married is so fun and amusing sometimes. :)

We have the house blues....

We are STILL waiting to close on our house.
It is taking forever and we keep getting SO close, just to have it pushed off another week.
....and another week.
.......and another week.
..........and another week.

You get the idea. It is "suppose" to done by this Friday (Aug 21st) but who knows what to believe anymore. I think I am just anxious because it is just creating a whole new set of issues. After we close then we have to deal with the renovation of the house, which is never fun. We have had some issues with contractors already and may be switching to a new one before they even start working. I just am not sure it is worth the hassle of giving them a shot when they cannot even be counted on to sign a form. You know?

Steve and I are both at the ends of our respective ropes. We are trying to remain kind and remember that it is almost over, but it is hard. Work stress, house stress, family stress ...it all piles up. We haven't have a repreive from it.....oh.....ever. We are both looking forward to moving into our OWN house. No one else around. No roomates, no extended family....just me, Steve and Laila. Maybe a dog. No one else.

Scott and Tanya were in town for a few days, it was nice to see them. Laila got a great gift from The Disney Store from her auntie and uncle. A cute pair of pjs and a Laila size Minnie Mouse stuffed animal. She loves it! Thanks again, guys!

We are counting down 3 months until our trip to see Dan, Monique and new baby Olivia (due mid-November.) I apologize, the exact date escapes me. Also, I am counting down 7 weeks until Christine comes for her annual visit to Minnesota! I miss her so much! :)

Ok, now I have to check all my blogs that I follow. :)

(side note: mom, we love you and we are grateful everyday for your generosity of letting us stay with you! don't be sad, we will be closer than you think!)

Adventures in Bathland.

I was reminded of a funny story today at work.
Last week I was running a bath for Laila and it had about 3 inches of water in it, along with copious amount of bubbles.
She often stands at the end of the tub and watches the water rise and the bubbles brew.
This particular night was not business as usual.
She was extremely excited by the bubbles that were growing and the splashing water.
I turned to get her towel and soap off the counter right behind me and I heard the squeal mixed with a grunt.
I turned back around just in time to watch her slip over the side of the tub, right into the bath...fully clothed.
I scooped her up within a millisecond and couldn't help but laugh.
Bubbles all over her face and hair, only the front half of her clothes soaked.
What a silly sight she was, and the biggest smiled mixed with confusion on her face.

My heart did stop for a beat when i saw her slide in, but it did remind me that we can't leave those little people alone for ONE moment!
They are crazy daredevils!
I hope that I never forget this memory, it is one of my favorites so far. :)

Update!

We have been extremely neglectful in our blogging duties. For that, I am sorry! We have had a whirlwind month and can hardly believe it is already august.

Just this past week we have been to two ( yes 2!) Twins games! Laila loves it and really does well! She gets excited at the right times and even does the wave! :)

The housing situation is on track, despite the best efforts of the mortgage company. Uggh no one ever said it would be this hard to buy ANYTHING! Oh well, we should be closing by August 10th (we hope). We will be remodeling the kitchen, new carpet, new windows, new furnace and some plumbing work. So we hope to be in by Labor Day. We did notice that they took the for sale sign out of the front yard so that is encouraging!

I am actually writing this post as we sit at the most boring baseball game ever..and we are losing by a ridiculous amount of runs. I figured my time will be better spent blogging on my blackberry. Steve still hasn't asked what I am doing, which I find amusing.
Birthday week has come and gone for the second time. Laila's 1st birthday was a bittersweet day for me. Happy that she is growing up but sad that she is growing up.

My birthday was nice. Steve took me out to dinner the night before and we went out drinking on my birthday. Steve taught me to play shuffle board and guess what, I'm not even terrible!

Let's seeee...what else?!? I don't think anything really that eventful has happened aside from lailas birthday and just waiting on the house. So with that said, I will get back to the game!

Just when we think things calm down....

....our house offer gets accepted! It actually happened yesterday but I have been so overwhelmed with tests and reading and writing papers! We are sooooooo excited and nervous. We have a lot of work to do but things are looking good so far. Our closing will be the end of July (hopefully) and we should have all the work done by September-ish. So that is our big new for now!

More to follow!

Monday, June 15, 2009

Woahhh, big step!

We put an offer in on a house!
We should hear back within a few days if it was accepted or not.
Here is hoping!

Laila says hi and that she is doing well. She loves her new pool we got her and is enjoying the sunshine (finally) !

That is all I have time to write, school is kicking my behind!

So close to the end!

So big news!
The assumption has been accepted by the mortgage company and a closing date HAS BEEN SET!
That is right. As of Friday around 4:30 we are free! We are homeless, but free!
I am so excited and I know Steve is too.
Our wonderment over whether we did the right thing is almost over.
We even think we found a house we want to put an offer in on, if it is still there next week!
It is a cute little house and would fit our lifestyle perfectly for the next few years.

I am trying to not get attached to anything, as I know buying a house can be a lot of ups and down. Both Steve and our realtor told me this a few times, do you think they are worried about me? I don't know what they could possibly mean?! Me get attached and obsess about something. Not in my nature. :) Right? Right?!

In other news, Laila is doing fantastic as usual. She is getting so big and I can't believe that now she has lived in EVERY month of the year! :) What a great accomplishment. Kudos to you, baby girl! We are planning a small first birthday party. A few of them actually. One in Aberdeen the weekend before and one at the lake on her actual birthday.

And a note to Steve, no my birthday is NOT July 23rd....it is July 22nd. July 23rd is your DAUGHTERS birthday. So stop telling people my birthday is July 23rd. Ay! I don't think that will ever end. :)

Sidenote: We had our check up at the ENT. She is doing great, no need to go back unless we think something is wrong. Whew! We are excited to stop paying co-pays and sitting in waiting rooms for a LONG time!

Closing the door.

So tonight is the night that we moved our last bits and pieces out of the old house.
We moved the majority of the stuff into storage, only bringing what we need to my parents house.
Don't let that fool you, we have a LOT of stuff at my parents.

It is bittersweet to be out of the house but Laila is happy as a little clam at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
She gets all the attention she can handle and more hugs/kisses than she would like sometimes. :)
She has her own bed and all her toys. Life is good in her world.

We found out that the 6-8 week estimation to get the assumption finished will be between June 26 and July 10th.
We are hoping and pray it is on the early end, but preparing for the latest date.
We have found a few houses we would be interested in putting offers in on, but who knows if they will still be on the market come 2 months. If not, I am sure a new slew of houses will be there for us to peruse.

Steve and I decided we will take our belated honeymoon to Hawaii for our anniversary in a few years.
We want to get our housing situated and we want to be able to save up for the trip of our dreams.
We didn't get to go on a honeymoon due to our situation, so we owe it to ourselves to do something big and fun!

In other news, I dont think I have ever shared the fact that my brother and his fiance and expecting a baby! I am pretty excited to find out what they are having. I think it is a girl. Laila thinks it is a boy. We will see who is right. :) They are due in early November (forgive me I can't remember the exact date). They are getting married August 2010 so plenty of time in between baby and wedding for Monique to get back into shape for her perfect wedding gown. It is stunning! I had the chance to go see it in person and it looked like perfection!

Also, I start classes on Monday. So that will keep me pretty busy. Steve has said he wants to start posting stuff, we will see if he follows through! :) I think he should. Laila does and I do...he needs to chime in. AND, I still can't find the cord for the camera.
That is what is up with the lack of pictures of my perfect, roly-poly baby girl. But I think I found a way to do it, so I will try that this weekend.

Sorry for the randomness of this post. That is just the way my brain has been functioning lately! Scary!

So it goes....

This week has been a rough one for me.
To be honest, I know it has been rough on Steve as well. But he is much better at dealing with emotional issues than I am.
We moved out of the townhouse and in with my parents. Moving was horrible, as usual. But it went smoothly and everything is in tact.
There is still quite a bit of stuff at the old house that we are working on moving out.
We will have it all out by Sunday and be TRULY read to move on.

I can't help but lay in bed at night and wonder. Wonder if we made the right decision? Wonder if we will regret our decision?
Wonder if I was being selfish? But then reality sets in and I tell myself....OF COURSE you did the right thing. No one was happy in that house, it was a toxic environment. It is not a good place for Laila to grow, learn and develop. You did the right thing.
Better things are coming. Better things are coming.

My friend told me that we ARE moving forward, just not in a straight line.
My dad says sometimes things have to get worse before the can get better.

It sure sounds good doesn't it?
I just can't let go yet.
I am angry that it turned out this way.
I am sad that it came down to this. I know Steve is feeling a sense of loss and being displaced. That makes me sad.
It just breaks my heart that the place that Laila was brought home for the first time, the place where Steve proposed to me, the place we spend out first Christmas together.....gone, all gone.
I am angry that it turned out this way.

I am angry at the fact that things could have been taken care of in a timely manner, but weren't.
I am frustrated with lack of a sense of urgency and procrastination.
I am angry at the complete disregard for others well-being and feelings.

It is quite the range of emotions that I am feeling. I am all those things PLUS ecstatic to be out of that house. In a place where Laila has more love than she can deal with. :) I am happy to be able to go get a glass of water or watch tv and not hope I don't see anyone else. It is nice to be in a place that feels like home and feels like love. Not anger and resentment.

It may not be ideal, but it is a step in the right direction.

Update!

I have been terrible at keeping up with our blog this month.
Forgive me, please! We have had a LOT going on.
Our lives are currently turned upside down and we are looking forward to settling into a new routine.
As some of you may know, we are moving out of our townhouse and moving into my parents for a few months.
We are waiting for the assumption of the townhouse to go through to Steve's name off the current mortgage.

The paperwork was FINALLY sent in this week and now it is just a waiting game.
Needless to say, we are both stressed and relieved all at the same time.
We need this to happen fairly quickly and smoothly so that we can start seriously looking at houses.
Until it goes through, we can't really do much as we risk losing any earnest money that we would put down if the assumption is delayed.

Part of me still fears that it won't go through for one reason or another. But there is nothing that we can do about that now!
We have done our part and we just have to stay positive.
We are excited to have the opportunity to have Laila spend lots of good time with my parents.
We are ALSO excited to be able to save quite a bit of money up for improvements on our new house, wherever it may be! :)

Laila is amazing, as usual. :)
She is CRAWLING. YES, you heard me, CRAWLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is getting into EVERYTHING. I just love it!
She is now eating semi solids and is a carnivore. She loves chicken pasta dished just like her mama.
She is really thriving in her new day-care and we love it there.

Congrats to my friend, Jen, on graduation from the dreaded nursing school.
Big Congrats on getting into her OWN HOUSE with HER OWN family. :)

Congrats to Steve on his BIG award at work.
Service Excellence for the 1st quarter! Awesome job!
Congrats on your 1 Year anniversary at this current job and 5 YEARS with Wells Fargo!
A job well done!

So, that is the update on us. Sorry it took so long!
