Oh the joys of homeownership

OK! So the last week has been a whirlwind. We almost lost the house and our earnest money because of a few choice idiots at the bank. But, luckily, we have to most amazing realtor who called in quite a few favors and got everything squared away! If you ever need a realtor, we most definitely will give you a great recommendation!

We signed all the papers Thursday and immediately went over to the new house. We changed all the locks from hideous gold to a more modern design and finish. Steve and I both like silver or pewter and the whole house is decked out in gold trimmed everything. Of course, we had our bottle of champagne and took lots of pictures, which I'll post later.

Friday night we went over to the house after work and ripped all the old carpet from the upstairs. It was so much easier to move around after that was out. It was thoroughly disgusting. We also started wiping down all the walls with bleach water.

Saturday was the big day. My mom had surgery for a retinal detachment (very scary by the way) so she is not able to lift anything. This makes it impossible for her to watch Laila. We had to bring her with us, which made everything a bit more challenging. In the morning we met the contractor to finalize the kitchen plans and then ew put her down for a "nap". I am not entirely sure how much she actually napped. We put her in a pack and play in one of the basement room.

She woke up and we went to The Home Depot. We purchased all of our appliances and they are set to come next Saturday! We are very excited. We also picked out all of our paint! We went back to the house and Laila took another nap. This time we are sure she didn't really sleep at all. I am sure it iwas just a strange room and strange noises coming from upstairs. But while she was resting we got the first coat on her room. We are doing it just like it was in the old house. :)

We used paint and primer in one, it is this new paint from Behr. It works AMAZINGLY well. There were crayon and marker drawings all over the walls and it completely covered it in one coat. We have a few spot to touch up due to my poor corner painting skills, but other than that...done! I am sold. Now we just have to convice Jes to come out and do her striped magic again! :)

The master bedroom had wallpaper in it. Lucky us. Steve worked tirelessy (obsessively) all day to get that stuff off. It is mostly done, save about a 3 foot section. I finally made him go home at 10:30 since we had been there since 9 am.

Todays projects? I am glad you asked. We will finish the wallpaper, clean and tape the master bedroom. Also, finish cleaning and taping the entry way and dining room. After that we will just paint away!

I will post more later on the progess and hope to get some pictures up soon!

And the waiting continues.

So, we are still here...waiting. Another week. We hope that this will be that last week of waiting, at least waiting for this. We are set to close Friday at 1:30 but we will see if that happens. If it does we are both ready to jump in and start getting ready to clean and paint. My parents are planning (for the 4th weekend in a row) to take Laila. Every week comes and goes and we have to say...not this week..how about next weekend?

I start class this week. I have a class on Saturday from 8- 11 am, which i am not looking forward to being functional at that hour. But, it has to be done! It is a macroeconomics class so I am excited for that, I really enjoy economics.

Laila is so close to walking these days! Grandma Pam bought her a little toy that she can ride/scoot along and it also lifts up to be a walk-along toy. She CRUISES on that thing. Get out of her way or suffer the consequences of broken toes.

She was 13 months old yesterday and STILL NO TEETH! Yikes! I am sure she is tired of eating semi mushy foods or very small chunks of not smushy foods. We have talked about it and she is getting ready to show some pearly whites soon she says.

We are going to the doctor on Wednesday for her 1 yr check up. It is a month late and the funny thing is that I made the appointment in the beginning of June. It was the ONLY time they could get me in with the Dr. that I wanted at the time I wanted. Oh well, delaying the shots is not so bad...but they inevitable come along no matter how far away you make the appointment.
Laila is such a good baby I am just waiting for the switch to flip and have the crazy kid that I hear everyone else has. She is such a blessing and we are so very lucky.

Steve is doing well. He has been running again and is sad that baseball is winding down. He is all geared up for football though. They sure do make these transitions easy in the world of sports, don't they? Not a day without something to talk about. ::rolls her eyes:: It makes him happy, and that is all that I can ask for sometimes! We all need our escape.

I'll keep you updated on the housing situation but right now Steve needs to talk to me about the Mt Dew commercial where ferrets attack people with a chainsaw?? I think he needs my devoted attention. Being married is so fun and amusing sometimes. :)

We have the house blues....

We are STILL waiting to close on our house.
It is taking forever and we keep getting SO close, just to have it pushed off another week.
....and another week.
.......and another week.
..........and another week.

You get the idea. It is "suppose" to done by this Friday (Aug 21st) but who knows what to believe anymore. I think I am just anxious because it is just creating a whole new set of issues. After we close then we have to deal with the renovation of the house, which is never fun. We have had some issues with contractors already and may be switching to a new one before they even start working. I just am not sure it is worth the hassle of giving them a shot when they cannot even be counted on to sign a form. You know?

Steve and I are both at the ends of our respective ropes. We are trying to remain kind and remember that it is almost over, but it is hard. Work stress, house stress, family stress ...it all piles up. We haven't have a repreive from it.....oh.....ever. We are both looking forward to moving into our OWN house. No one else around. No roomates, no extended family....just me, Steve and Laila. Maybe a dog. No one else.

Scott and Tanya were in town for a few days, it was nice to see them. Laila got a great gift from The Disney Store from her auntie and uncle. A cute pair of pjs and a Laila size Minnie Mouse stuffed animal. She loves it! Thanks again, guys!

We are counting down 3 months until our trip to see Dan, Monique and new baby Olivia (due mid-November.) I apologize, the exact date escapes me. Also, I am counting down 7 weeks until Christine comes for her annual visit to Minnesota! I miss her so much! :)

Ok, now I have to check all my blogs that I follow. :)

(side note: mom, we love you and we are grateful everyday for your generosity of letting us stay with you! don't be sad, we will be closer than you think!)

So close to the end!

So big news!
The assumption has been accepted by the mortgage company and a closing date HAS BEEN SET!
That is right. As of Friday around 4:30 we are free! We are homeless, but free!
I am so excited and I know Steve is too.
Our wonderment over whether we did the right thing is almost over.
We even think we found a house we want to put an offer in on, if it is still there next week!
It is a cute little house and would fit our lifestyle perfectly for the next few years.

I am trying to not get attached to anything, as I know buying a house can be a lot of ups and down. Both Steve and our realtor told me this a few times, do you think they are worried about me? I don't know what they could possibly mean?! Me get attached and obsess about something. Not in my nature. :) Right? Right?!

In other news, Laila is doing fantastic as usual. She is getting so big and I can't believe that now she has lived in EVERY month of the year! :) What a great accomplishment. Kudos to you, baby girl! We are planning a small first birthday party. A few of them actually. One in Aberdeen the weekend before and one at the lake on her actual birthday.

And a note to Steve, no my birthday is NOT July 23rd....it is July 22nd. July 23rd is your DAUGHTERS birthday. So stop telling people my birthday is July 23rd. Ay! I don't think that will ever end. :)

Sidenote: We had our check up at the ENT. She is doing great, no need to go back unless we think something is wrong. Whew! We are excited to stop paying co-pays and sitting in waiting rooms for a LONG time!

Update!

I have been terrible at keeping up with our blog this month.
Forgive me, please! We have had a LOT going on.
Our lives are currently turned upside down and we are looking forward to settling into a new routine.
As some of you may know, we are moving out of our townhouse and moving into my parents for a few months.
We are waiting for the assumption of the townhouse to go through to Steve's name off the current mortgage.

The paperwork was FINALLY sent in this week and now it is just a waiting game.
Needless to say, we are both stressed and relieved all at the same time.
We need this to happen fairly quickly and smoothly so that we can start seriously looking at houses.
Until it goes through, we can't really do much as we risk losing any earnest money that we would put down if the assumption is delayed.

Part of me still fears that it won't go through for one reason or another. But there is nothing that we can do about that now!
We have done our part and we just have to stay positive.
We are excited to have the opportunity to have Laila spend lots of good time with my parents.
We are ALSO excited to be able to save quite a bit of money up for improvements on our new house, wherever it may be! :)

Laila is amazing, as usual. :)
She is CRAWLING. YES, you heard me, CRAWLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is getting into EVERYTHING. I just love it!
She is now eating semi solids and is a carnivore. She loves chicken pasta dished just like her mama.
She is really thriving in her new day-care and we love it there.

Congrats to my friend, Jen, on graduation from the dreaded nursing school.
Big Congrats on getting into her OWN HOUSE with HER OWN family. :)

Congrats to Steve on his BIG award at work.
Service Excellence for the 1st quarter! Awesome job!
Congrats on your 1 Year anniversary at this current job and 5 YEARS with Wells Fargo!
A job well done!

So, that is the update on us. Sorry it took so long!

Update!

So much has happened in the past month, I dont really know where to start! I guess I'll just dive in and see where we end up!

First, the housing situation. We are MOVING! I am so so so so excitekid! I am so excited to live in a house with just OUR little family. For those of you who don't know, before Steve and I started dating he bought a townhouse with one of his friends. That is where we having been living for nearly 2 years. Needless to say, it is time to move on.
The friend (whose name also happens to be Steve- weird, I know) has decided to buy our half out. We went through many, many scenarios before arriving at this one. We couldn't be happier but to be honest, shocked. We never expected that and are so excited to start our own little life in our own little house. We are looking at new houses next Friday and I cannot tell you ecstatic Iam.

Second, Laila's surgery. It was one of the best decisions we have ever made. For any of you who have met Laila, you know that she is THE happiest baby ever! Even with the constant ear infections she is smiley and giggly. You should see her NOW! She is talking so much and moving around like never before.

*Time out* Laila would like say something.

Ok, she really needed to get that out.
So]u, back to the surgery. We were the first ones on the schedule that day. Of course, the doctor was late....no surprise. I made Steve go back when she had the anesthia. I just don't think that I can handle that little baby drifting off like that. He was only gone a little over 2 minutes! Then we waited for the doctor, another 4 minutes and then waiting for her to wake up another 5 minutes max! It all took less than 15 minutes.

When we were called back to the recovery room, she was crying and her little head was all wobbly. It was quite sad. She just wanted her mommy. I snuggled her and kissed her. I talked to her and told her it was all over and she would feel much better now. We let her have some
apple juice. Hey! Surgery is a big deal, the girl deserved a little sugar rush. :)

We went home shortly after. She cried all the way home but as soon as we got out of the car and
I got her in my arms, she quieted. She took a 3.5 hour nap and woke up quite perky! She played, sang and laughed all afternoon.

Ok, I am sure there is a ton I am leaving out. But Laila is too cute to not play with right now! :)

Another month comes and goes...

I feel like time is just flying by. I wish I could make time stand still or at least slow to a crawl for a few months. Laila is getting too big right before our eyes and it is scary! It is strange to think about 1.5 years ago Laila didn't even exist and now she is close to a year old!

March was a good month for the Janish family. We had a lot of things happen. We learned that Laila enjoys the swimming pool after her first lessons with Daddy. We got Laila scheduled for her tubes on April 27th. We went out to Maryland to see Scott and Tanya. Making it the 6th state that Laila has been to in her 8 months lifespan!

She did great on the flight out there and did ok on the flight back. She would NOT go to sleep the whole time and then, of course, she fell asleep right as we landed. We were upgraded to first class on the return flight! So this little baby really has a head start on getting it all done. 2 big trips, 6 states and first class all before 1 year! Lucky little lady is what I say!

We spent a day in Annapolis and is was AMAZING weather. We had a great lunch and I found a delicious caramel apple for desert. Aside from that we just relaxed and hung out. Ate good food and laughed a lot with Scott and Tanya. I had a great time and I am so thankful for such amazing family.

One other big thing that happened in March is the daycare switch. Laila is now at an in home daycare with a woman named Pat Miller. She lives very close to us and has one other little girl in her care. Haley and Laila play all day long. Today Pat told me that they sat in front of each other and waved at each other for nearly 5 minutes. So cute! I almost think I want to leave my camera at Pat's so she can take pictures of the girls.

Laila is always so happy when I pick her up and Pat really seems to enjoy taking care of the girls. Plus, bonus for us, we don't have to get her ready in the morning. Pat says she is more than happy to dress her after her morning nap. Awesome! :)

So less money, less work for us and Laila is loving it! I am, so far, very pleased with our decision.
That is about it for the last month. Some big things going on this next month!
  • April 6th is the Twin's Home Opener! Laila is going to Auntie Victoria's house to play with her boyfriend, Ridley.
  • April 8th is my parent's 31st wedding anniversary! (amazing!)
  • April 12th is Easter.
  • April 19th is Laila's cousin Ana's 3rd birthday party. (Laila's FIRST party!)
  • April 25th is the Heart Walk!
  • April 25th is also Laila's cousin Locke's 1st birthday party! woo-hoo! Party!
  • April 27th is Laila's surgery date.

We are so excited to get into April but at the same time, hoping we can take some time to slow life down and really enjoy it.

Just to hold you over...

I know how much you have been missing seeing new photos of Miss Laila. So here is one of her drinking her bottle like a BIG girl!!!

Steve and I have both had a rough week at work. We are excited to take our much needed vacation out to D.C.!!! I'm so excited to see one of my very best friends, Christine and we are all excited to see Scott and Tanya.

We have resolved the daycare issue, thankfully. We have chosen a wonderful woman who is about 1 mile from our house. We are very thankful to have found her and are excited for Laila to start playing there! More details on that later.

Laila has yet another ear infection. Oy vey! We have her scheduled for tubes on April 27th and are just ready to be done with this business!

This week was a big week for LJ. She learned to wave AND clap! She is also perfecting asking for MORE using her signing skills. Completely adorable, if you ask me!

I think that's everything! Night everyone! We love you! :)
